The story of Maraea, an elderly Maori woman who lives in a coastal community, next to an albatross colony. The rest of the people move to the cities, and soon only Maraea is left on the clifftop, looking out to sea to welcome the birds. Maraea passes away, and only a rock remains on the cliffs where she used to sit - but in spring, the rock transforms into a bird. Suggested level: junior, primary.
