Te Puea Herangi (1883-1952) secured the survival of the Maori King movement - the nearest thing in New Zealand to nationalist organization. But she was far more then an influential Maori Leader professor J.G.A. Pocock has described her as possibly the most influential woman in New Zealand's political history.
