Lord Arthur Savile's crime -- The sphinx without a secret -- The canterville ghost -- The model millionaire -- The portrait of Mr W.H.
In the first of these short mystery stories, LORD ARTHUR SAVILE'S CRIME is murder. When Lord Savile's palm is read, he's informed that he will be a murderer, and he realises that if he wants to marry, he has no right to do so until he has committed the murder. But despite his efforts, his first two 'victims' completely fail to be harmed by his lethal intentions. Thinking that his marriage plans are doomed, he encounters the same palm reader by the bank of the river Thames - and suddenly realises that his task, at last, can be fulfilled.
