Ruby loves her half-sister, Hine, and treasures all the fun times they share together when she comes to stay every school holidays. Hine has suffered from a serious illness since her birth, and she dies a few months before her tenth birthday. Ruby attends Hine's tangi and creates a memorial garden for her back home. Both of these experiences help Ruby to come to terms with her grief. Based on a true story. Suggested level: primary.
