A long time ago the patuapaiarehe lived near Rotorua on Ngongotaha Mountain. They were a peaceful people whose only fear was that the giant Tipua who lived in the Kaimai mountains would decide to attack them and steal their lands. When the Tipua were heard marching through the forest towards them, the patuapaiarehe had to rely on the cunning of their wise tohunga to cast a spell and save their lands. Suggested level: primary.
