A dying man named Peter Barker asks Sheriff Quigley to deliver a message to his family. Quigley does so - only to find himself the target of range baron Huston McRae, who controls everything in Gila County, including the law. McRae doesn't want an outsider nosing around in his affairs, and especially not helping Peter's widow. When McRae's attempts at intimidation fail, he orders Quigley killed. But Quigley sends for his deputy, Murray Fishbourne, and together they'll take on McRae and his gunslingers.
