Maid : hard work, low pay, and a mother's will to survive / Land, Stephanie,

Whakaputanga: . xiv, 270 pages ; 24 cm.

This is a story of struggles and triumps over adversity through hard work and resilience. It is a story of putting one foot in front of the other each day to forge a new life for yourself and your family despite all the odds. I felt very inspired by this story and it is a tribute to it's author Roxane and her courage to not give up on her dreams. Added 13/10/2022 by Nicola

The show girl : a novel / Harrison, Nicola,

Whakaputanga: . 390 pages ; 25 cm

The summary on the back says it all. The writer takes one on an incredible journey. Transporting the reader to many places from humble beginnings to glamour, fame and dispair not to forget the plot twists along the way. I did not want it to end. Nicola Harrison could certainly write a sequel!

The devil's bargain / Rimington, Stella,

Whakaputanga: . xi, 257 pages ; 24 cm.

Stella Rimington is one of my Favourite Authors and this book is one of her best so far. The story is intertwined from beginning to end with believable content due to her many years at Mi5. A really riveting read. Added 06/07/2022 by Nicola

The princess diarist / Fisher, Carrie,

Whakaputanga: . 257 pages : 23 cm.

Most have known Carrie Fisher as an actress but what many don't know is that she is also a very talented author. All of her books including this one display a very dry and witty humour making this a fun and easy read. The inside story of her time as a fledgling actress in Star Wars and excerpts from her journals make this a very poignant memoir for Star Wars fans. Added 21/03/2022 by Nicola

The lost apothecary / Penner, Sarah,

Whakaputanga: . 301 pages : 24 cm

A charming story of past and present lives intersecting in London when an American woman finds a vial in the Thames. The journey to discover it's origins and the people involved changes her life. An easy read with some interesting historical elements to enjoy. Added 12/03/2022 by Nicola

The Thursday Murder Club / Osman, Richard,

Whakaputanga: . 450 pages (large print) ; 24 cm.

A good idea. Being Book 1, there is a lot of things that happened in the past that are not satisfactorily explained in this book. - hopefully in subsequent episodes.

The hope flower / Dettman, Joy,

Whakaputanga: . 419 pages ; 24 cm.

The continuation of 'Henry's Daughter'. Excellent read.

Pulpit Rock / Rhodes, Kate,

Whakaputanga: . 392 pages : 24 cm.

There's getting to be a sameness about the plots in this series.

Talk of the town / Johns, Rachael,

Whakaputanga: . 11 audio discs (CD) (11 hr., 13 min.) : 12 cm ; in container.

This was an excellent story, narrated very well. Meg's story has many twists and turns and the mystery of her new home had me riveted. Added 16/12/2020 by Maria

The sleeping beauty killer / Clark, Mary Higgins,

Whakaputanga: . 301 pages ; 24 cm.

Unfortunately, after reading a couple of titles from this series, it's obvious in the first few pages who the 'Baddy' is going to be; but still a good read.

The secrets of strangers / Norman, Charity,

Whakaputanga: . 340 pages ; 24 cm.

I think this is the saddest story I have ever read. Make sure you have a whole box of tissues!
